i - house

I’m going to continue posting a little bit about Istanbul Geotag , but I’ll try to keep this series short, because everyday I have more things to write about, and less time to do it, so…

i - house Name: i - house. Address: Geotag Istiklal Caddesi Zambak Sokak No:5 Beyoglu / Istanbul (Turkey). Phone: +90 212 244 37 73 Fax: - Hostelling International: No Rating: Good. Website: i - house.

This hostel is located less that 5 minutes away walking from Taksim square, one of the main centers of Istanbul, which also happens to be one of the most vivid areas of the city, being full of shops during daytime, and pubs and bars during nighttime, so nice nightlife here is granted. Curiously, there are no signs on the door of the hostel, so unless you already know that it’s there, it can be really difficult to spot it.

There are 3 kinds of rooms in i - house: double with private bathroom, and 4 and 8 beds dorms with shared bathrooms. The best ones are, of course, the double ones, as they have almost the same size as the 4 beds dorms and despite their walls are not decorated at least their walls are painted.

The 4 beds dorms (where I happened to spend my nights in Istanbul) are very small for so many people. All the beds bunker beds, and aside from that, in the room there’s just a small table and 4 tiny lockers. Also, the walls are completely nude, showing old bricks; so sometimes when you go to sleep your bed in full of grains from the bricks.

Aside from the rooms and the showers and toilets, the only facility of the hostel is a living room with a big table, 2 coaches and a ridiculously small kitchen (with a ridiculously small fridge). So this side of i - house is no big deal.

The main advantage of this hostel is that, for being located in such a fantastic place, sleeping there in a dorm is really cheap, being 8.5 EUR the bed in a 8 beds dorm and 13 EUR in a 4 beds dorm. The double room is 49 EUR. Also, in the price the bedclothes are included, but not the towels.

Sincerely, despite not being perfect, is a nice hostel, and I think that the cons are well balanced by the pros. Personally, I enjoyed my stay there, and if I go back to Istanbul probably I’ll come here again, as it was very cheap and nicely located.
